Services

On this page you can access the 'virtual' services that have been created within the Mid-Somerset Group during the Coronavirus crisis.

The virtual services are stored in a single folder on Google drive. Within the folder you will find a selection of folders arranged by date (as yymmdd) with the location and the worship leader's initials included. These folders include the appropriate video or audio files, together with, where possible, an order of service and PDF files of the hymns and songs used.
You can access the top level folder by clicking HERE. Then double click on the particular service you wish to hear. Inside the folder there will be several files. The video file will have the suffix .mp4, .mpg or .wmv. Audio-only files have the suffix .mp3 or .mp4A. The video files, as recorded, are very large, so we have reduced the resolution to make them more manageable. They will normally stream direct from the internet. As an alternative you can download to your own device (right click on the file name, then select 'Download').

West Street Church at Somerton has been recording its Sunday services for more than four years, to distribute on small MP3 players to housebound members of our church family, and providing them online for anyone with internet access who missed a service or wants to hear it again. This resource is free to use for everyone. To access the services (same convention as above regarding file names) click HERE.

Links to the virtual services held by and within the group are added regularly. Some earlier services may be archived, but should be available on request.

“THE UPPER ROOM - The Last Supper”, multimedia performance/storytelling/photography/music

Hello, I am a storyteller, violinist and photographer, and I have created a multimedia performance called "The Upper Room" which I would like to offer your church. In my performance "The Upper Room" I narrate chapters 13-17 of the Gospel of John faithfully and by heart. I have traveled the Middle-east in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and photographed the cultural landscape in Israel and Egypt in search of visual motives, illustrating the Biblical scenes, which I display on a screen while rendering the Holy Scriptures. This, I have put together with short pieces written for solo violin. The performance lasts 75 minutes. Please view the attached description for further reading. Somerton West Street Church Christmas

 At Somerton we were unable to have our planned Christmas morning service this year. In common with some other Methodist churches in the Somerset Mendip Circuit, live services have been suspended until the situation over coronavirus is clearer. Everyone is, of course, disappointed at having to close the Church doors on such an important day. Rev Tim stepped in and offered to record the service he had already prepared, and we already had much of the music available. So, at very short notice, it was all put together as an audio-only file, and the resulting service is now available here . It appears we may be in and out of different tiers of lockdown for some time to come, so this is an attempt to produce a service that would be accessible to most people.
